The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, on Sunday, visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The duo met with Obasanjo in company of the Labour Party (LP) National Chairman, Julius Abure, and the Senior Pastor, Trinity House Church, Ituah Ighodalo.

Baba-Ahmed disclosed this and equally shared pictures of the meeting with Obasanjo on his Twitter handle.

He was, however silent on issues discussed at the meeting.

"Earlier today (Sunday), myself and H. E. #PeterObi in the company of other #NgLabour chieftains consulted with the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo," he posted.

Daily Trust correspondent gathered that the visit was part of the LP's candidate consultation on his presidential bid.

Fiancé of lady who called off wedding 72hrs to D-day reacts, says he adores her

Fiancé of the lady called Ada Uburu who called off her wedding citing domestic violence from her partner, has reacted.The man identified as David Okike, who was accused of domestic abuse by Ada in a statement on Facebook on Friday denied all the allegations levelled against him.He alleged that the fiancée lives a lavish and wasteful lifestyle.He further accused her of carrying out abortion of three pregnancies belonging to him.You would recall that Ada had on Facebook post revealed that her relationship with David started when they were secondary school mates.She alleged that the fiancé, David beats her at the slightest provocation.Noting an instance when her fiancé almost killed her but for the timely intervention of family and neighbors, she was saved.Reacting to the allegations brought against him, David said: "Contrary to the statement my wife posted on her Facebook profile bearing Ada Uburu, which is currently trending, this is my story."Let me first clarify that we have dated for over 8 years and she bears Ada Uburu with her official name, Michael Helen Ozioma, and another identity - Sandra Obi, which she uses to suit her purpose of identification at a particular time."Within these years, I have never on any occasion, irrespective of the level of provocation, raised my hand on her and this is because I respect and adore her."Okike further stated that 'there was no such occurrence where I raised a knife, cutlass, and or harmer on her and it was shocking to read her fabrications in that regard'."Accepted that there is no perfect relationship, I can't deny the fact that we sometimes disagree but it never led to assault as she alleged."I make the above statements knowing that we were not leaving alone but surrounded by relatives which can as well serve as witnesses to how we lived while we were together in my house."

Gunmen attack police checkpoint at Soludo's hometown in Anambra Isuofia is home to the state governor, Mr Charles Soludo.

Assailants attacked a police checkpoint in Isuofia, on the Ekwulobia Igboukwu Road in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra on Thursday.Police spokesman in the state, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, said on Friday that three personnel on duty sustained gunshot injuries, but no death was recorded."The Mobile Police personnel posted to the point gallantry repelled the attack, unfortunately three of them sustained gunshot injuries during the gun battle with the hoodlums."Following the quick deployment of operatives in the area by the Command, calm has since returned to the area,'' he said.Ikenga said police were still hunting for the assailants.

Soludo Visits Razed Aguata LGA Secretariat

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo early morning on Friday, April 8, 2022, visited the Aguata Local Government Secretariat where some buildings within the premises were torched by unknown arsonists.Prof Chukwuma Soludo who was conducted around the building by a senior principal officer of the local government decried the act of lawlessness being perpetrated by these unknown arsonists.After undertaking an inspection of the buildings set ablaze by arsonists which also include the administrative building, Governor Soludo reassured that the people of Anambra State will not succumb to acts of lawlessness. He stressed that peace and security must reign in Anambra State.He, again, appealed to those committing these heinous crimes to accept the olive branch offered by the State government by coming out of the Bush and surrounder their guns so that they will be rehabilitated to join in playing critical roles in the development of Anambra, South East and Nigerian at large.He added that those who refused to take that option and decide to continue with their criminal activities will be treated as criminals.Governor Soludo also revealed that statistics from investigations from those arrested previously show that 85% of those committing these crimes come from one state in the Southeast while another 15% come from other states in the same southeast geopolitical zone.He said these criminals are not from Anambra State because Ndi Anambra do not engage in violent crimes and killings.He further reassured that peace and stability will return to Anambra State stressing that the people's power must triumph.

Domestic violence: Lady calls off wedding 48 hrs to ceremony

Barely 48 hours to the traditional and church wedding between Miss Michael Ozioma Helen and David Okike in Ebonyi State, the former has called off the event over alleged battery by the latter.Already, information at Vanguard's disposal said Ozioma's dowry had been paid.Ozioma announced the cancellation, on her Facebook wall, yesterday.She said: "I never wanted to bring this here but I have to. I am the type of person who likes to keep my relationship away from social media but this is for clarification purposes. "He was my secondary school classmate whom I thought I knew to an extent. On December 28, 2020, he did the 1st and 2nd stages in my family marriage list, which included the bride price."After he paid my bride price, he started maltreating me. 2021 was hell for me that at some point I left home. After everything, we settled around November 2021 and he promised he would never beat me again. Still, nothing changed."This is my reason for calling off the traditional marriage (Igba Ngwu) and white wedding ceremony between me and David Okike. (Beating me was not part of the agreement in our marriage)."One of her friends who simply identified herself as Tochi, confirmed the cancellation, adding that they had bought Aso ebi in anticipation of the wedding.She applauded her friend's courage in calling off the wedding., stating that it was better to call it off at this stage than walk into her casket.Also, one of the contact persons on her invitation card, Michael Obi, confirmed the cancellation to Vanguard.He said, " Yes, it is true that the wedding has been cancelled".

Plateau Bloodbath: Lawmaker wants arms legalised for self-defence

The Chairman, House Committee on Navy and member representing Pankshin Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Yusuf Gagdi, has called on the National Assembly to enact laws that will permit Nigerians to bear arms for self-defence.Gagdi disclosed this in a chat with journalists on Friday, shortly after he visited some communities in Kanam and Wase Local Government Areas that were attacked by bandits and claimed over a hundred lives.It could be recalled that gunmen suspected to be bandits last Sunday stormed some communities in Kanam and Wase and killed 106 persons, injured scores and razed many houses.According to Gagdi, legalising the bearing of arms bearing would go a long way toward addressing the spate of attacks and killings in communities.He said stiffer measures must be put in place to regulate the use of arms by citizens.'If we want to curtail the spate of attacks in communities, we should make laws that will permit citizens to carry arms.'If for instance, those who attacked my people know that the locals also have arms, they won't come, and even they do, the casualty will not be this high.'But there must be regulation on the use of the arms; anyone who misuses it should be imprisoned or even sentenced to death by hanging.'But I tell you, if citizens are allowed to carry these arms to protect themselves, all these attacks and killings will end,' he said.Gagdi called on security agencies to always work on intelligence reports at their disposals to avert incidences that could lead to security breaches.He maintained that the attacks in his constituency could have been avoided if the security agencies acted on the intelligence report at their disposalHe lauded the military for the prompt response and deployment of personnel to the affected communities.
